*Updated 7:25 a.m. 1/21 to include Ready Pac recall:

PetSmart said late Tuesday that it is voluntarily recalling several dog biscuits because the treats might contain tainted peanut paste.

The Arizona pet retailer said some Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits are made with peanut paste from Peanut Corporation of America, which is under probe by the Food and Drug Administration.

*California-based Ready Pac said early Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling celery stick snack packs with peanut butter sold at markets such as Trader Joe’s.

Federal health officials believe PCA’s peanut paste and peanut butter are tied to a nationwide salmonella outbreak that’s sickened more than 470 people in 43 states. Six people have died.  Investigators say peanut butter sold in jars has not been impacted by this outbreak.

PCA does not sell products directly to consumers. However, its peanut paste is used to make many popular foods and snacks sold in markets. *California-based ReadyPac also said early Wednesday that it is pulling celery and

Since late last week, dozens of power bars, cookies and crackers have been recalled by food companies ranging from Clif Bar, Kellogg, Kroger Co. and General Mills. Last week, Southern California supermarkets pulled Keebler and Austin peanut butter crackers from shelves. (LIST of Recalled Peanut Butter foods)

PetSmart is believed to be the first pet retailer tied to the tainted peanut paste.

Only after he gets those crooks in his cabinet. Then we’ll be watching more than our peanut butter-laden dog biscuits.

Wow, the bitterness carries over into a food discussion. You have more to worry about than tainted peanut butter!

  • Clara says:

Our dog, six months old, 50 pounds, has been getting these biscuits, UPC code 3725700601 for several months now. I noticed that of late, when we go for runs, he eats a lot of green grass. It’s almost like a cow grazing, the amount he eats. I don’t know if this means he is feeling sick or not but I am concerned.

I don’t know about all peanut butter, although my impression is that it was more other types of peanut products. But I already had purchased some Trader Joes peanut butter and was well into the jar with no ill effects when I first heard about the recall. I figure it must be ok. I even opened another jar today that I had previously purchased of the same type of Trader Joe’s peanut butter.

I’m wondering about their yummy peanut butter cups. Of course I’m better off if I don’t eat them since they taste so good, they just taste like more and its difficult to stop. LOL.

It would be helpful if the articles listed all the products for the particular store, especially specialty stores like Trader Joes.
