Worried you’re next in line to get the job ax, but don’t know how or where to get started in changing careers? UC-Irvine Extension wants to help lead you out of the unemployment wilderness.
The school is presenting an “Extreme Career Makeover” live Webinar from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.
Experts in personal coaching, professional development and outsource placement will provide participants with tools, tips and processes to assess skills and objectives to help them move toward career growth and opportunities.
Webinar participants will be able to ask the experts questions and get advice for jump starting their careers.
The Webinar will be hosted by David Van Waldick, who made the transition from an 18-year real estate career that was hit hard by the housing market downturn to a thriving career in financial planning.
“There are growth industries out there, even in times of economic crisis. The trick is to know which industries are thriving, and to refocus, re-energize and repackage skill sets that translate to a successful career in the current market,” says Van Waldick. “‘Extreme Career Makeover’ will provide insight into growth industries and will reveal the tools and resources for learning to prosper even in challenging economic times.”

Other Orange County economic news …

What a great idea! I wish I lived closer and could participate in the “Extreme Career Makeover”. It seems as if no industry is safe, so it would be very interesting to learn which ones might actually have potential.
I think we are returning to the more serious side of business, as referenced in this article http://actbrilliant.typepad.com/brilliant_job_search/2008/11/every-employers.html on http://www.ActBrilliantJobSearch.com. The martini lunch came and went, and may be back again, and I think the days of casual Friday’s to business-casual have made their way back to business suites…….
Good luck at the makeover!
